2024 Annual Research Symposium

The 2024 Annual Research Symposium featured the extraordinary research of students and faculty on April 4 and 5. 

The first day was filled with in-person poster presentations at the Holland Avenue Building, followed by virtual podium presentations on Day Two, with a keynote speech by Dr. Melissa L. Bondy, a recognized global leader in brain cancer research from Stanford School of Medicine. Research topics covered a wide range, from understanding biological mechanisms involved in diseases like breast cancer and HIV to examining the effectiveness of flu vaccine mandates on certain populations.

Student Research Award Program winners: 

Afomiya Kassie, BS Pharmaceutical Sciences: “Crosstalk between fibroblast, adipocyte, and breast cancer with ESR1 mutations.”

Dhatri Sangasani, BS Microbiology: “Investigating the latency promoting and neuroprotective properties of Sulforaphane in microglial cells.”

Faculty Scholarship of Discovery awardees: 

Dr. Binshan Shi:  Activation of type I interferon production induced by HIV-1 cell-to-cell transmission in human immune cells

Dr. Timothy LaRocca:  Mechanisms and outcomes of the hyper-glycemic shift to necroptosis in myeloid cells
