Marilyn Stapleton, PhD, RN

Dr. Stapleton is the Interim Program Director for the emerging Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Nursing Program. In addition, she chairs the Institutional Review Board at Ellis Medicine and supports the efforts of Davin Healthcare, Inc. in the development of nursing scholarship. A Davin Healthcare project underway is the implementation of a longitudinal study to learn about the impact on caregiver health when using wearable technology.

All three of Marilyn’s academic degrees (BS, MS, and PhD) are in nursing. Her nursing doctorate was earned from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Since her career began, she has been employed in roles such as medical-surgical nursing, health care, auditing, teaching nursing at the associate and baccalaureate levels of nursing education, nursing program leadership, nursing education accreditation and consulting. She serves on the Capital District Nursing Research Alliance, Inc. research committee and in the role of accreditation team chairperson for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

She is currently working on two additional research projects, one examining the extent to which nursing program curricula integrate the LBGTQ+ concepts in their curricula, the other is uncovering academic leadership competencies of nursing program administrators and the existing barriers to the development of these competencies. In 2023, she and her research team published a manuscript titled “Roles and Skills of Effective Academic Nurse Leaders”.
