Seven students have been selected as recipients of ACPHS Summer Research Awards. The annual program provides stipends and summer housing for students interested in pursuing laboratory, clinical, or other research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
The program is designed for B.S. or Pharm.D. students who are new to research, as well as those who have significant research experience and who wish to refine those skills.
The goals of the program are to: (1) Promote student engagement in research and scholarly activities, (2) Encourage mentoring relationships between students and faculty in a research or scholarly environment, and (3) Provide students with opportunities to gain practical research skills and experience.
Each student is awarded a $2,000 stipend plus $500 for research supplies. Additionally, housing is offered for those who need it during the eight week research project period which must take place between May and August.
At the end of the research term, awardees are required to give a ten minute oral presentation about their experience. The presentations are scheduled to take place during the fall 2014 family weekend.
