The Director of Academic Advising reports to the Associate Dean for Student Academic Support Services and is responsible for the development and leadership of advising initiatives for every academic program on the Albany and Vermont campuses.
The director works closely with Faculty and Staff to successfully develop, coordinate, implement, and assess strategies and related academic support services to ensure student retention and success through graduation in accordance with the Strategic Plan of the College and the Division of Student Affairs.
The director supervises approximately 3 FTE within the Office of Academic Advising and serves as Chair for the Academic Advising Committee.
The director is responsible for the development of academic advising strategies that are aligned with the strategic goals, mission and vision of the College and individual schools within the institution. The director also assists in conducting outreach and recommends a course of action to students experiencing academic difficulty, provides support on student service topics, and makes proper referrals.
The director develops, organizes and supports a comprehensive training and professional development program for faculty advisors in collaboration with deans and program chairs. This individual develops and maintains advising components of the College’s student information system (CAMS) to support the needs of students, advisors and the institution.
Aspects of this position also include participating and representing the College in new student orientation sessions; budget forecasting and annual budget proposals; other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling or a related field and 3 to 5 years’ experience in academic advising and/or student development required. Previous supervisory experience, project management and strategic planning preferred.
